Entry Way Table

This is a cute little against the wall table for an entry way, below a large picture, that you can put knick knacks, pictures, candles, etc... on.

The Barnwood Table and Hutch Set All Done

I finally finished the table, chair, bench, and hutch set.  I took some better pictures of it inside all set up.  I can picture my furniture inside, but most people need a visual so they can see it in their home.  That is another important thing I learned to sell my furniture better.  Pictures in the driveway or grass, don't do it justice.

Always Learning and Changing Things To Make Them Better

I redid the legs on this table.  I first thought the original legs were cool, but they looked goofy, so I took off the 2 x 4 legs and installed 4 x 4 legs that were weathered and had old barn red paint on them.  I think it looks much better and people can sit on each end now.  Learn as you go...

This table turned out AWESOME!  I did a lot of planing to get the small wood blocks all the same width and smooth for the table top.  It was inspired by 2 scrap wood pictures I did a few weeks ago.  You can see one of them in one of the pictures.  Don't know if I want to sell this table.  I like it a lot!

Cool Table!

I found another use for my scrap wood.  My scrap pile was growing at an alarming rate again, and I had to do something about it and fast, so all the spiders didn't make their home in my scrap pile.  Nothing like grabbing a piece of wood with a brown recluse spider on it or a black widow.  It can never be the friendly kind of spider.  lol.  I spent hours and hours going through my scraps.  Cutting them square and sanding them.  Then I took a thin board about 4' x 2.5' and glued all the pieces on it.  I made a frame to support the board of scraps and inlaid it in the frame.  None of the scraps were the same thickness, so I took my planer to the top of it until is was all level.  To tired to stain it tonight, so I quess that will be tomorrows project.  I'm thinking about making matching chairs, but I need a break from cutting and sanding little pieces of wood for hours.

Hutch To Match Table Bench and Chair Set

I made an awesome reclaimed wood table, bench, and 2 chairs.  Jenn suggested I make a hutch to match, so I did.  It has a removable top half and two doors on the bottom shelf.  Lots of cutting and sanding on this project.  I had to make sure all my wood was straight and not warped for this project.  Nothing like  sorting through hundres of boards to find straight boards and the boards I needed, of course had nails and screws to pull out.  LOL  I would have had to do it any way.  It is important to pick out "alike" wood and randomly nail or screw in boards of different size and color and character.  Otherwise you get one side with all light wood and the other dark, etc...  You have to have a plan as well.  It makes the project easier, less time consuming, and less waist of wood and supplies.  Your plan can change as you build, but draw out something or have a picture of something to go off of.  I always learn as well.  Most of the time, the hard way, but my furniure gets better and better!  Any way...here is the hutch and newer picts of the table.

Reclaimed Wood Table Bench and Chairs

This table is 60" long x 30" wide and 30" tall.  It is made of 100% reclaimed wood.  It has a bench that fits nicely under the table and 2 matching chairs for the other side.  It is very solid and primitive looking!  One of my favorite tables I have made.  It can be used indoors for a dining table or outdoors for a patio table.  I love the look of this type of furniture!  When I look at China made tables vrs this table...I want to stop the production of press board!  Press board furniture is low quality and will not last.  If a leg or something brakes on press board furniture, you just throw it away.  You can easily replace a board or leg on my table if you can even brake it at all.  My table can be sanded down, painted, stained a different color, redone how ever the owner wants it to look at any time, with only a few hours of work.  I takes a lot of work to make a table like this or other reclaimed wood furniture.  You have to find enough similar wood to build it complete, pull out all the nails and screws, cut off any rotton ends, sand it enough to get all the dirt and mold off, but not so much that it takes away the weathered look, get the most from the wood by laying it out so you don't waist longer or wider pieces of wood, plane down slightly worped boards or ends of the boards, stain it several times to bring out the character of the wood and protect it (about one coat per day, so if you need 6 coats of varathane, you need about 6 days of staining). Making sure not to have any stain drip, assemble it so it is square and level, counter sink screw holes and drill pilot holes so the wood does not crack and screws don't stick out, make sure the table/chairs/bench are even and it does not wobble. feewwwwww.  Then you can use it or sell it.

I Found Another Use For All My Scrap Wood

My pile of scrap wood was about 2 feet high and all the scraps were to small to make boxes with and I didn't want to throw them out, so I kept them and watched my pile grow and grow and grow and grow and grow.  Well Jenn found 5 thin wood slip sheets, used for pallets and brought them home for me about 2 weeks ago, and I staired at them for the two weeks I had them, wondering what I was gonna use them for.  I put 2 and 2 together and came up with a great idea.  I once used all my log end cuts on a board to make a 5' x 3' rustic picture and frame...so why can't I use my scrap pieces of wood to do the same thing?  So I did and here it is.  4' x 2.5'.  I think its pretty cool any way.  I stained it clear and made a second one.  I still have a ton of scraps, so I'll probably make a 3rd and 4th one if they sell quick.

Barnwood Bird Houses

Well, I had to do it...I have been building little wood boxes with my scrap wood and got sick of making them.  I was drinking my morning cup of coffee on the patio and looked over into the neighbors yard and saw her bird house and just walked into the shop and started making them with some scrap barnwood I had.  I made them so they can be an inside decoration or hang from a tree, or be mounted to a post.  Here is your new home little birdies.  LOL

Reclaimed Wood Is Nice and It Is Free

I scored a truck full of reclaimed wood, thanks to Jennifer.  She is a bloodhound when It comes to finding wood and supplies for me.  Thank you Jenn!  I made a shelf with a bass fish, a table, some more wood boxes, a coffee table/trunk, a up against the wall table with a piece of elm.  It sucks having to pull all the nails and staples out, but it recycles and the wood is already weathered and rustic and it is FREE!

More Small Stuff

I like to use all my scrap wood and let nothing go to waist!  I use 100% recycled wood and even hammer old nails straight and reuse them.  It also keeps my busy when I'm out of regular wood to make the big stuff and keeps my imagination stimulated by trying to figure out what I'm gonna make with a pile of scrap wood and log ends.  LOL.  My scrap pile is about 2 feet high and I quess it's time to make some more small stuff tomorrow.  Here are a bunch of towel and coat wall mout hooks, some log coasters, 2 small wood boxes, and a wall decoration made out of log ends.  People put letters on them, like "welcome" and put them by their front door, or put their names on them or just leave them plain.  One of the coat racks is made out of a walnut log and uses old railroad spikes for hooks.  The others use old square nails and rustic hooks.

Rustic Bar Inside or Outside Patio Bar

I just keep making bigger furniture and more detailed furniture.  This is not a glamorous, fancy mancy bar, but it is cool as heck!  It is totally rustic and I used 100% recycled wood.  It is 51" wide x 38.5" deep x 42" tall.  On both the inside arms of this bar, it has shelved to hold all types of glasses from wine, margarita, beer mugs, tumblers, etc... 10" spaced shelves on the left side and 8" spaced shelves on the right side.  It has a long liquor shelf and room for an ice bucket/chest under the liquar shelf and storage.  This is an awesome Patio bar!  It would be hard to get it into your house the way its built, but I could make you a custom bar.  LOL. Cheers everyone!

Rustic Rustic Rustic

For Christmas, I made Jennifer a shelf with a dragon fly accent out of old barnwood and square nails.  It is solid wood and couldn't be any more rustic with how beautiful the boards are and being held together with square nails.  I also made her a cabinet out of over 100 year old barnwoon with a droor and doors on the lower section with a few shelves.  I used broken boards for the upper shelves that add dept and character and if you look at the back...it is not all the way filled in.  Cool look!  Here is also a 6' long table and benches that went to Michelle who raises special needs children and was an honor to meet when she picked it up!  The barnwood box was picked up by John, who is using it in his wedding to hold a wine bottle and 2 wine glasses.  I used old rusty rustic nails and glue to hold it all together and got the lid to fit tight.  The barnwood picture frame was custom made for Stan, who is putting a picture of a Native American in it to give to a 70 year old retiring boy scout leader.

New Stuff From the Hip

It has been a while since I've posted new pictures of different furniture and other stuff I have made.  I got rid of my facebook and now have time to keep up with this blog. lmao!  So here are some random things I've made in the last month or so...

I have made about 10 oak and walnut benches, a 6' long patio table (still making the benches to match), 2 42" x 42" patio tables and chairs (one with a unbrella hole), a log patio table (all patio tables can be used inside as a rustic nook table and chairs), 2 big chest with sliding shelfs, lots of wood boxes (using all my wood scraps), a kick ass potting table (using old square nails for tool hooks on the backboard).

Next projects are gonna be some barnwood picure frames, a bench/chest, another potting table that will be 6' long, a few more tables and chairs, (chairs are kinda a pain in the ass to make, but it's worth it when they are done!), and what ever I feel like making.  lol
