Good Start To Finishing A Queen Size Reclaimed Barnwood/Fence Board Bed Frame

I started this bed 3 days ago, but it is over a 100 degrees outside and to hot to work much past noon.  I try to start early, but my neighbors don't like my saws going at 5am.  lol.  This bed uses 6x6 post, 4x4 side rails and foot rail.  The top and bottom rails on the headboard are 2x4.  The top rail on the headboard is inlayed to the headboard post and all the other rails have a 2" tendon holding them into the rails along with 90 degree corner braces under each rail.  There is also 45 degree corner braces conecting the side rails to the head and footboard rails to add stability.  I used 3 2x4's as cross beams to set the box spring and mattress on and added some braces under each cross beam along with toe nailes screws to hold them in place.  I still have a lot of sanding to do and I have to stain it as well.  I'll post pictures of the bed frame when it is all finished, but it might take a while, because of the heat...

Oak Log Kitchen Island

This 200 plus lb oak kitchen island is beautiful and sturdy!  It is 36" tall x 4' long x 26" wide.  It has one shelf at the base that lays on the long cross braces supporting the legs.  I planed the top of the braces, so the shelf would sit flat and level and cut it to the curve shape of both logs to give the shelf some character.  The top and bottom are planed and sanded smooth (took like 4 hours and a numb right arm lol).  It has many coats of polyurathane on it to make it shine and protect it.  You could put a couple of stools next to it and use it as a table as well.

2 Custom Picture Frames For A Customer

I had a customer looking all over to have frames made for 2 pieces of glass she had that are 5" x 21".  The cost was high at the "big box" stores and so was the waiting period.  I put them together in a few hours, minus a 5 hour delay to go to the emerency room with a kidney stone.  (OUCH!).  Stay hydrated my friends and support the local artisins!

Fenceboard Bench

I scored a bunch of fence that was taken down and painted white already.  It already has the shabby sheek look and makes awesome benches like this one.  This bench is 4' long x 12" deep x 19" tall.  Notice all the cross braces?  Fence boards need support in the center so they don't brake and are safe to sit on.  The braces also add character to the bench!

Rustic Barnwood Sofa/Wall Table With Drawers and Shelves

This table has amazing barnwood!  It had holes from knots falling out, old nails (that I cut the ends off, but left the nail head showing).  I put two shelves in (offset) and added two drawers and used leather straps from an old horse harnis.  I only stained the table top to bring out its colors and left the rest of the table the natural wood, just sanding off the dust and corners.  It is 53" long x 10" deep x 36" tall.

Custom Kitchen Island

This Island is for a younger couple just starting off with a new home.  It is 48"L x 30"W x 36" tall.  One side has a 10" overhang to be able to put a couple stools and sit on that side, and the other side has two drawers and access to the shelves.  It is made from reclaimed wood from a fence, a remodel in a home, and a barn.  The legs are stained ebony (black), the trim is stained gloss maple, and the top and shelves have many coats of polyurathane as well as over the stain on the legs and trim.  The table top boards are from a barn and were warped a bit.  They came toung and grove already, but I had to plane the female ends to get them to fit tight together.  A little glue and a few nails to hold them together, and whala.  lol

Barnwood Book Cases/Shelves

Everyone can use an extra shelf!  I got a new nail gun for my birthday and it is lots easier than drilling pilot holes and using nails, cracking the boards, etc...  I scored a few 5 gallon buckets of paint and use them to paint a shabby sheek look.

Oak Log Bench and Coffee Table

I cut down a dead oak tree a week or so ago.  (that is a big project!)  I have lots of oak branches and logs.  I'm going to see my grandparents soon and they like to sit on their front porch when it is nice out and only have plastic chairs.  I decided to make them a log bench that won't blow away in the wind, or brake, and they can sit next to eachother.  I also made a log coffee table.  It is 1/3 of a 4' log that I cut into slices to use the curved ends for benches and the center pieces to make table tops with.  They are both very solid and heavy!

Reclaimed Barnwood Spice Rack 16" x 12" x 4"

This spice rack is made from reclaimed barnwood.  It is one of my smaller projects, but fun to make and adds a nice accent to your kitchen!  I can make them in any size to hang on the wall or sit on the counter

Big Dining Table 110" x 48" x 30" tall

I just finished this 110" x 48" 30" tall reclaimed wood 4 x 4 dining table.  It is made in 2 pieces.  The legs have a frame that conects them on the top and fit into the bottom of the table top.  It weighs about 300 lbs.  It is the largest table that I have ever made.  It has braces under the table at each end conecting the table top to the legs, and braces on each inside conecting the legs to the center beam.  It is stout!!!

Updated Pictures on the Barnwood Shelfs

Here are some better pictures of the big 5' tall and short, but long bookcases/shelves I promised

Rustic Bar/Hutch and Rustic Barnwood Door Table

It is awesome what you can make when you find cool wood and materials like this old rustic pantry barn door with about 3 colors of paint showing through the scratches and dings and the outline of the old hinges in the paint.  I made a base/frame and legs and mounted the table on top.  It is 80" long x 29" wide x 30" tall.  The bar is saw milled oak boards and still has the huge saw marks in it.  I had just enough to put this together.  I used old rustic hooks for the door handles, cut out diomond holes to flow with the old wine rack i got from a friend and put square wire mesh behind the hole in each door.  I stained it several times with clear polyurathane to make it smooth to the touch and shine.

Rustic Log End Picture 5' x 30"

I have made these before, and they are beautiful to look at!  It brings the outside inside and makes a wonderful accent picture to hang other pictures and/or floating shelves around!  I've seen them on the wall by a dining or breakfast table, above the fireplace, used as headboards, etc...

Finished Poduct

I had a comment posted on a 43" x 43" rustic table I made.  She asked if it was a finished product.  Very good question!  Here is a better picture of this table in the customers home who ordered it from me.  I like comments and questions, so please keep them comming...

Double Sided Outdoor Bench Is Painted Patina

Jenn and I finished painting the double sided bench a patina look.  Jenn suggested I add an unbrella holder/mount, so I did.  Great Idea Jenn.  Nothing like having shade to sit in when It's 100 outside!
